Windsor Restored after Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

Crews of cleansing workers from Urbaser Ltd are hard at work cleaning up and collecting rubbish following the Platinum Jubilee celebrations last weekend. The company estimates that over 10 tonnes of rubbish will have been collected by staff, once the clean-up operation is completed.

Graham Tidy, Contract Manager, Urbaser Ltd: “Our crews are busy cleaning the streets and collecting excess rubbish. We installed an extra 15 litterbins to help ease any shortfalls and had teams out each morning cleaning up after the day’s events. As part of our annual street cleaning programme and in preparation for the street parties we also washed the pavements and streets using a Boshung Deck scrubber.”

Over 50 street parties took place in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead between 2-5 June to mark the occasion and thousands of people visited Windsor over the weekend. Urbaser Ltd, the third largest environmental services provider in Europe, is responsible for keeping the Borough’s streets clean, including removing chewing gum and litter.

Graham added: “I’d like to thank our staff for their hard work in keeping the Borough looking good before, during and after the Jubilee weekend.”

Celebrations began on Thursday 2 June with the Windsor Platinum Jubilee Beacon lighting and fireworks from 9pm on the Long Walk. On Saturday 4 June the Jubilee Party in the Park on the Long Walk took place, featuring cars from every year from 1952 to 2022, and performances on stage all day, culminating in a live broadcast of the Party at the Palace from London on big screens in the evening. The weekend finished with Windsor’s Big Lunch on Sunday 5 June with a long row of picnic tables at the Castle.
