Urbaser to Deliver Wokingham’s Street Cleansing Services

Urbaser Ltd is due to start providing street cleansing services for Wokingham Borough Council, as a subcontractor to VolkerHighways, who has been awarded the highways and transport maintenance and construction contract.

VolkerHighways’ contract began 1 April 2019 and runs for seven years, with a possible extension of a further three years. The contract includes routine and reactive highways maintenance, including street lighting, structures, bridges, drainage and winter maintenance.

The street cleansing element of the services, which will be provided by Urbaser, includes a combination of mechanical and manual street and open space cleaning; cleaning public car parks and subways; removing fly tipping; and cleaning up for special events.

Javier Peiro, managing director of Urbaser Ltd, commented of the new contract: “Urbaser Ltd is delighted to be selected as VolkerHighways’ subcontractor to deliver street cleansing services to Wokingham Borough Council. Building on our existing high-quality services provided locally in Berkshire, we look forward to a long and successful partnership between ourselves, the council, and VolkerHighways.”

Urbaser already provides services in the area through a separate street cleansing subcontract with VolkerHighways in Windsor & Maidenhead, which began in April 2017. Since the contract began, Urbaser has cleaned up the borough for two royal weddings, state visits, the Royal Ascot races, and numerous other high-profile special events. Urbaser has also received accolades for the quality of the services provided following results from the National Highways and Transport Network (NHT), which ranked the borough as second best nationally for the cleanliness of its roads and third best nationally for the cleanliness of its pavements.

Kunle Kolaru, operations director for VolkerHighways said: “We are delighted to be working with Urbaser once again, to provide street cleansing services as part of our contract with Wokingham Borough Council. Our existing collaboration has been very successful and we look forward to continuing our relationship delivering services in Wokingham.”
